The blog raises the concern around the Independent Expert Panel’s legal definition of ecocide. Through a hypothetical case, the blog examines the aspects of individual criminal liability and the scope of the crime. After the legal analysis of the definition of ecocide, the blog comes to the conclusion, that the current proposal for the definition of the crime of ecocide is not specific enough to address the challenges, and there is a lack of clarity as to how and to whom would it apply in practice.
