Loredana Pirvu, Ecocide: The Opportunity to be Included Globally, but also in National Laws, Acta Universitatis Danubius Juridica, Vol. 21(1), pp. 7-20 (Mar. 2025)
Humanity is facing major existential challenges, climate change and armed conflict are amplifying these pressures. This paper analyzes the increasing importance of recognizing ecocide as a global crime due to growing scientific evidence of Earth reaching critical “tipping points” and “planetary limits.” It examines the potential of including ecocide in national laws as a tool to combat environmental destruction and promote sustainability, while also considering the need for a clear definition, consistent application, and a unified international framework, potentially through the International Criminal Court.
