David Krott, The Ecocide-International Environmental Crime Nexus: When Can an International Environmental Crime be Called “Ecocide”?, INTERNATIONAL LAW BLOG (June 25, 2021)

In this blog, Krott suggests that an ecocentric approach, which takes into consideration the well-being of nature, is more well-suited to establish an international environmental crime. He argues that anthropogenic view, which focuses on humanity, as well as a general lack of regard for nature has contributed to labeling international environmental crimes as a “second class crime” as opposed to ecocide which is considered a “first class crime.” However, Krott argues that a “clear delineation” between ecocide and international environmental crimes is still missing. As such, Krott welcomes the ecocide panel efforts and adoption of an ecocentric approach.
